Lyrics

It’s December 21st and it should be snow but it’s rain, falling on my windshield as the traffic stops in all four lanes. The car behind me blares the horn, so I turn up the radio, and the simple sounds of “Silent Night” take me back to long ago.
I remember Christmas before the world set in, before the bills and deadlines loomed, when I was just a kid. The frosty air was magical, searching for the perfect tree, and the scent of pines went to our heads till we swore we heard angels sing. (At home we’d gaze for hours at amazing twinkling lights, all the stockings hung, now we just had to wait, and all was calm, all was bright.) I lost it somehow, but I think maybe I could find it again, ‘cause I remember Christmas before the world set in.
I wonder how I got here in this jaded state of mind, caught up in this frenzy, worried about money, about time. I see the crowds of people as I pull up to the store, but I don’t get out, just look up and ask, “What is all this rushing for?”
The perfect gift of love came down to shed His light on us, but sometimes we lose sight of all the wonder that is Christmas. Tonight I’m gonna turn this car around and head back home to those I love and make some brand new memories of my own.
I remember Christmas before the world set in, and looking through a child’s eyes, I think I’ll find it again. At home we’ll gaze for hours at amazing twinkling lights, all the stockings hung, now we just have to wait, and all is calm, all is bright. I lost it somehow, but I think maybe I can find it again, ‘cause I remember Christmas before the world set in. I remember Christmas…I’m gonna find it again.
